Armstrong Atlantic State University

Windward Commons Pedestrian Walkway

Located on what was the main campus axis, the Windward Commons Pedestrian Walkway infrastructure project revitalized an outdated roadway with a classic brick paver walkway.

Connecting the central core of campus to both the residential and recreation quadrants, this walkway has transformed the use and function of this previously underutilized corridor.

About The Client

Situated on the Atlantic coast in beautiful Savannah, Georgia, Armstrong Atlantic State University is a dynamic public university known for excellent arts and sciences along with outstanding professional programs. With approximately 7,600 students, Armstrong is small enough to foster a genuine sense of community and large enough to offer more than 100 academic programs. Armstrong is part of the University System of Georgia.

The main campus of the university is located in a suburban setting 15 minutes from downtown Savannah just off Abercorn Expressway. In 1993, the college began extensive landscaping work that transformed the campus into an arboretum. The Armstrong campus is characterized by numerous flowers, ferns, magnolias, Spanish moss draped oak trees. A wide variety of native plants are scattered throughout the 268-acre marsh-side campus.
